Very simply, a volumetric feeder is a device that meters by volume, as opposed to a gravimetric feeder, which meters by weight.
Because of their lower cost and simplicity, volumetric feeders are more widely utilized. A true volumetric feeder encompasses a method of measuring volume and a means to discharge that measured volume over a variable range by varying the speed of the feeding mechanism. Especially effective when metering the many different varieties of amorphous products, the unique "Inter-Auger-Action" produced by the rotation of the Double Concentric Augers operating at dissimilar speeds "conditions" the product to a remarkably uniform density while circumferentially filing the metering auger precisely, efficiently and reliably.

Dead zones do not exist and consequently, product stagnation cannot occur anywhere within the feeder.
With only a few moving parts, Model 170 Series Metering Mechanisms have the unique ability to "self-empty" - when permitted to feed until empty, or to "empty-quickly" - when the need to empty the feeder rapidly exists. The Models V-101 and V-130 are single auger Volumetric Feeders specifically and uniquely designed to accurately feed 1/8 to 5/16 inch long stranded fiberglass (and similar materials) at low to moderate feed rates without any product degradation whatsoever. These particular model feeders are also completely self-emptying.
The standard feed range for metering fiberglass on the Model V-101 is 0.1 to 18 cubic feet per hour, and 0.5 to 59 cubic feet per hour for the Model V-130.
